On July 4t 1918, Hilroy commenced operating under the name of Canadian Pad & Paper Co. Limited. The company founder, Roy Corson Hill, was born in the village of King (north of Toronto) in 1892 and attended publis school there. Roy Hill began working at age 12. He first worked as an office boy for a salary of $3 per week. Eager to get ahead, he began taking commercial courses at night school. Seven years later, Roy Hill had progressed to a $7 a week job, working in the warehouse of a textbook publishing company. By the time he was 24, he was earning $30 a week as a travelling salesman for a stationery firm covering the territory from Winnipeg to Montreal. His knowledge of the stationery business had become outstanding. Today, Hilroy employs over 150 people. |
