1. How do you know if the products are really made in Canada?
BuyCanadianFirst.ca always conducts a certain amount of initial research on the retailers or manufacturers who request member status. And before they can upload their products to our site, all potential members must agree to our Terms and Conditions, which includes an attestation that their products are indeed made in Canada.
We also conduct random physical spot checks on actual products. Finally, we rely on consumers like you to let us know if you find fault with a specific product. We do our best, but the ultimate responsibility for the integrity of the product rests with our members.

2. What happens to members who post products that aren't made in Canada?
These members are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. We are reasonable and know that sometimes mistakes happen, but repeat offenders will not be tolerated. The integrity of the information on our site is our top priority.

3. What if I suspect that a product is NOT made in Canada?
Let us know! With so many products added daily, it’s very difficult to keep track of them all. We try to maintain the integrity of the catalogue as best we can, but we rely on consumers like you to let us know if you find fault with a specific product. We only ask that consumers reporting a product present a case based on facts and not hearsay.

4. What is the difference between “Product of Canada” and “Made in Canada”?
Currently, Canadian laws enable manufacturers and producers to claim "Product of Canada" or “Made in Canada” on labels if 51% of the production costs were incurred in Canada. But that doesn’t mean that the materials or ingredients are from around here.
Since January 1, 2009, food may only be labelled "Product of Canada" if all major ingredients and labour to produce it come from Canada. Otherwise, the products must carry a qualified label, such as "Made in Canada from imported ingredients". We hope that this new law will soon apply to consumer goods other than food!

5. Are the prices accurate?
Prices are an indication only. Vendors may sell for more or less, depending on the item. Also, some products are listed by manufacturers who prefer not to include prices, as these vary greatly by location. Always check at the point of purchase and don’t forget that federal and provincial (where applicable) sales taxes are not included in the listed price.
