Product DescriptionFormat: Compact DiscReleased Date: July 7, 1998 Label Name: Reprise Seven years after the release of their first full-length album Gordon, the Barenaked Ladies prove with 1998’s Stunt that they are still as strong as ever. Featuring the rap-tinged radio smash “One Week,” Canada’s pride and joy makes an unprecedented assault on American album charts while staying true to their reputation as pop troubadours. Mixing ultra-clever lyrics and catchy, hook-driven tunes with more serious, heartfelt songs like “Call and Answer,” this album showcases the true depth of the talent in the Ladies’ room. STUNT is another tightly wound, witty, melodic Barenaked Ladies album, with songs that range from dangerously manic to contemplative and nearly sweet. The slightly psychotic white boy rap on "One Week" employs wacky lyrical ingenuity, with such lines as "Hot like wasabi when I bust rhymes/Big like LeAnn Rimes." On the other hand, the charm of "In The Car" lies in its twangy alt-country sound and a sense of nostalgia for a more naive time. Barenaked Ladies' lyrics can veer awfully close to being precious, but they avoid crossing the line with a magical combination of intelligence, biting cynicism, and a refusal to take themselves too seriously. From the Critics: Mojo (2/99, p.91) - "...Achingly beautiful harmony-rock embellished by an astonishingly eclectic instrumental palette and topped with mind-boggling lyrics..." Tracks: 1- One Week 2- It's All Been Done 3- Light Up My Room 4- I'll Be That Girl 5 Leave 6- Alcohol 7- Call And Answer 8- In The Car 9 Never Is Enough 10- Who Needs Sleep? 11- Told You So 12- Some Fantastic 13- When You Dream Find out why we love this member... |
