Product DescriptionBird Woman. An interpretation of a dream that I had, while living in California in 1985, missing my Negootkook. The dream started in the days of my ancestors in my village (Negootkook),with my daughter. It was all wilderness in autumn on this beautiful spot, which is situated at the point of two rivers. At that time, for some reason, my people were having a hard time catching their food, so they were really hungry. Suddenly a big flock of birds came flying towards us. We started running all over to try and catch them. My daughter was about five years old then, so she wanted to help. When she started chasing one, she grabbed the tail feathers of this large bird and caught it. She started plucking the feathers off. She felt proud and grown up, that she was helping. Suddenly, the bird started crying, and told her, “I am not good to eat, can I please have my tail feathers back, they make me beautiful. My daughter felt so bad, for catching the wrong bird, that she started to cry herself: So she tried to wrap the feathers back on it as best as she could: As she was doing this, the bird transformed into a beautiful (Wolostoq(Maliseet) woman, wrapped in a colorful blanket of feathers. She became friends with my daughter instantly. The Bird Woman took her by the hand and walked off into the village, they were like old friends. As they continued to walk, I heard the Bird woman tell her,â€Your people will never go hungry again.†This is just one of the many versions I did of this particular dream,I had so many years ago. People often tell me that its a vision, others tell me it was a prediction. Myself, I believe it was a wonderful gift. Ten years after I had this dream I had a daughter of my own. The original piece is hanging in my home reserve, in Negootkook, N.B. Size: 19 x 22 Find out why we love this member... |
