About: True North Salmon Co.
|
There are several reasons that True North stands out. We have a strong grassroots connection to the marine environment, a deep desire to foster environmental stewardship and a commitment to sustainable farming practices. At True North we invest in innovative technologies that help us improve operations to deploy best-in-class environmental practices. We live and work in coastal communities and depend on producing great aquaculture products now and in the future, so we operate in an environmentally-sustainable way to preserve a healthy marine habitat. We are rooted in coastal communities and support employment and healthy prosperous communities. It's simply our way of life The True North Salmon Company is the operating arm of Cooke Aquaculture, established in 1985 as Kelly Cove Salmon by Gifford, Michael and Glenn Cooke. The company's origins were humble, beginning with a single marine site. Four years later the family decided it needed a consistent and independent supply of eggs and smolt so it purchased the Oak Bay Hatchery. The Cooke family recognized that becoming vertically integrated and growing to a competitive size would be essential to compete in this global industry. To achieve excellence in this very special food industry, they developed integrated systems and operations that now allow for excellent control of product quality from the Atlantic Salmon life cycle to sales and customer service. To this day, the Cooke family pursues a plan for sustainable growth, strategic acquisitions and employee development opportunities. The Cooke family has lived in southern New Brunswick for over seven generations. They truly have a love of their coastal heritage and a deep respect for nature and Atlantic Salmon. The company still has the same friendly, approachable feeling of their first small operation. We care about and respect the communities in which we operate. And that's why we actively support community events and projects. We regularly donate to outreach programs, participate in nature conservation programs and support environmental initiatives. At True North, we believe in putting people first. And because we care about our employees, we're committed to building the economy where our people live. Most of our fish farms are located in the coastal and rural communities of Atlantic Canada and Northern Maine. Our people, over 1200 of them — from administration to production to sales and marketing — live in these communities with their families and contribute to their social fabric. We care about and respect the communities in which we operate. And that's why we actively support community events and projects. We regularly donate to outreach programs, participate in nature conservation programs and support environmental initiatives. |
